Black Creatives Matter

My perspective as a young professional Black woman during the 2020 Black Lives Matter movement.

The Breakdown:

This story is my story. My thoughts, feelings, and experience as a Black woman, working in the corporate world, during the height of the 2020 Black Lives Matter movement in June.

Writing, editing, and sharing this story was incredibly difficult. However, it was me making a move. Me stepping out of my comfort zone. Me raising my voice and speaking up.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Author and speaker, @luvvie said it best: “Just being in the room is not enough. If you don’t say something, you are not doing your job.”

So even if I impact just one person with this story, I will have done my job. And my hope was that this piece could inspire others to do the same.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Additional Materials

After I wrote this piece, I had actually ended up sharing it with my agency (yes, the very same agency that I was calling out in the article). Surprisingly enough, I didn’t get in trouble, or face backlash, in fact, my creative director had actually wanted me to share it wide. So, I did. The following is my “author’s note” that I gave before reading the piece live.
